STEEL BLOCK NATIONALS UP NEXT AT CPS

By Terry Whetstone

CLEARFIELD, PA – Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey won his last ever feature race at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway in 2008. Just seven months later he was killed in a freak, work related accident in April of 2009.

Last year the Bainey Family held the inaugural Sheetz McGarvey Memorial and the Steel Block Nationals will carry that name far into the future.

“It’s a bittersweet honor to be able to say that Sheetz McGarvey won his final event right here in the Steel Block Nationals,” said Dan Bainey, Director of Operations. “He was by far one of the nicest and happiest guys you will ever meet, it’s fitting that we keep this event named after him.”

McGarvey started his career at the speedway when it was paved; he won many races there over the years, including a few track titles and the prestigious Yankee Doodle 50 in 2005.

As the excitement from the World of Outlaw event still flies high, its time once again for the Steel Block Late Models to battle it out for the Big Bear Trophy. The Labor Day weekend event will see the Steel Blocks will be squaring off for $4,010 to win and $400 to start.

The Street Stock Shootout event has been opened to all teams and an additional $4,000 added to the purse.

Track owner Tim Bainey said, “When the topless race was postponed we decided, because we only had three Shootout races in this season, to be fair to all the teams, not to limit the field to the top 30 in points. This way if a team had a bad week or two they still can come run for the larger payout.”

The front wheel drive 4 cylinders will round out the night with a 15 lap $400 to win $40 to start main event.

“The last time the 4 cylinder guys were here, we had three of them piled on top of each other and a flagman ready to jump in the grass… it was exciting to say the least,” says Dan Bainey

We’ve always had a great turnout of teams and fans for this event and the competition is tough.

"There will probably be at least five track champions from other speedways in each division racing against each other, Bainey said. “So, it’s kind of like a bragging rights event on top of all the money and trophies. We are setting the admission prices low for this event and extending the kids free admission to 10 and under. This way families can come finish the summer and send the kids back to school the right way, at a race track."

The pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. with grandstand and hillside gates opening at 4:30 p.m. Racing take to the track at 7 p.m.

Admission is just $15 for adults and $10 for those ages 11-15. Ten and under are free when accompanied by an adult.

For more information phone the speedway at 768-FLAG or check out the website at www.thebigtrack.com.

Nationals Just Around the Corner

As the excitement from the World of Outlaw event still flies high, its time for the Steel Block Late Models to battle it out for the Big Bear Trophy.  This Labor Day weekend September 5th the Steel Blocks will be squaring off for $4010 to win and $400 to start.

Go Kart Rain Dates August 28th & 29th - Money Races & $10,000-to-Win Koala Bear Qualifier Added

The PDKS Karting Championship event has been postponed until Sunday August 29th.  They will be running there 19 divisions as scheduled with the gates opening at 7 a.m.  A special provisional for the $10,000 to win Koala Bear Nationals Animal 375 class will be given to the winner of the open Pro Class that also pays $500 to the winner.

Central Pa Speedway will be running the Karts Saturday August 28th for a two hour PDKS/Open practice session and running 5 divisions of money races and two trophy classes.  Four of the money races will be $100 to win and payback 1 spot for every 3 karts registered with a max of a five kart payout.  Highlighting the day will be the Animal 375 Koala Bear National Qualifier.  The race will lock the winner into the $10,000 to win Nationals in October.  A special twist to the race is the winner will be paid $1 per pound as they weigh-in after the event and the rest of the top 5 will be on a payout scale.  Teams will have to decide how much each pound is worth toward their performance on the track with a minimum of $375 on the line.

“Its great to have the karts back at the Big Bear, says Dan Bainey.  We got Saturday’s races in, but Mother Nature decided let to loose on Sunday and forced us to postpone the rest of the event.  In hind sight it’s not a bad deal, I feel bad for the teams who traveled the long distances (hopefully they stopped at Snappy’s and got a deal on fuel), but it gives us the opportunity to reschedule our day and put together some money races.  The great thing is we get to lock in some drivers for our $10,000 to win race coming up in October.  Teams have the opportunity twice, once each day, to have themselves a guaranteed starting spot.  All of us at Central Pa Speedway, but especially myself, learned a few things this past Saturday about ideas to do to help us run our Go Kart events more efficiently for everybody involved.  Things like the sightlines of the drivers, parking, and practice groups.  You always look back an event and say what could I do to make things better.  I’m excited to make some changes and put on a very professional day of racing for everyone.”

**Must be pre-entered for Koala Bear Nationals by heat race time to be eligible for the given Provisionals

Go Kart’s Up Next At The Big Bear

August 14th and 15th Central Pa Speedway will be overrun by the Go Karting World.  Two full days of racing are on tap for the PDKS Championship weekend.  Saturday will be Central Pa Speedway’s Trophy Day.  Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each of the ten scheduled classes.  Entry fee’s for the trophy races will be $15.

Also on Saturday the East vs West Series will be running their Super Heavies and their Medium classes for $500 to win each.  Classes running include:  Animal 330, Animal Heavy, F/H 340, F/H 375, Gold Plate, Blue Plate (combination blue and purple), Jr. Champ, Sr. Champ, Clone, and Blue Plate Champ.

“The Karts may be smaller in size than fans are used to seeing at the big bear, but man they are intense, said Dan Bainey.  Racers come to the Big Track because; like Ricky Bobby says “they like to go fast” and this holds true for the Go Karts.  They sail around here, some of them average over 85mph and when you are only an inch off of the ground, that’s movin.

We tried to pick classes for Saturday that everybody can race at least once, some people can fit in two or three classes.  A big draw during the weekend for outside racers and local teams is they can get valuable on track racing time for the upcoming Koala Bear Nationals and the $10,000 to win Main Event.  With the Trophy races and the PDKS running on Sunday, we should have a pretty good turnout of racers on Saturday.

Then on Sunday the Pennsylvania Dirt Karting Series (PDKS) takes over for a jam packed day with 19 classes.  Championships will be decided and the 2010 Champs will be crowned as the PDKS finishes there season right here at the Big Bear.

Central Pa Speedway August 13th Date Changed

to October 3rd and Adds Bonus $$$

The Super Late Model Topless event has been moved to Sunday October 3rd.  The originally plan line-up will remain the same; the First Pure Stock event under the Tim Bainey ownership, the Street Stock Shootout Point Finale and the Super Late Model Topless Race.  The Topless event will pay $2000 to win, $200 to start with bonus money added for the teams who support the “Topless” theme.  The cars who qualify and start the main event topless will receive a bonus $100 and a bonus of $500 is up for grabs if the race winner is running with the top down.

“We decided to change the date for a few reason, the main reason is that it lets teams stay focused on their points battles says Dan Bainey.  My father and I have said from the beginning that we are here to support local racing and it makes sense to change this race date.  It takes a lot to change setups from one track to another, not to mention the chance of tearing up fenders.  I’ve talked to some of the teams who are coming for the Topless race, but are in the top 5 in their weekly racing points…  It’s the right thing to do for racing in general.  By October 3rd most tracks are finished and there Point Champions are crowned.  Then the teams can concentrate full force on pulling off the roofs and battling at the Big Bear.”

**The date change will effect the qualifying for the September 5th Steel Block Nationals Event.  The provisionals in the Steel Block event will be given as track provisionals.

**The Street Stock Shootout Nationals event will NOT be an invitational race.

Lanigan Takes World of Outlaws Victory At Central PA Speedway

By Terry Whetstone
MOUNT ZION – The World of Outlaw Late Models played before a standing room only crowd Tuesday night at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway as the touring series made it’s first ever visit to the speedway.

Thirty-four late models signed in to do battle at The Big Bear for the Fear the Bear 40 and when it was said and done it was Darrell Lanigan from Kentucky taking home the $8,000 check and proving he wasn’t afraid of any bear.

Chub Frank and Rick Eckert led the 24-car field to the green flag with Frank taking the initial lead and he set the pace for the first five laps with Lanigan moving into second on lap three.

A lap five caution slowed the field and on the restart Lanigan was shot out of a cannon and shot into the lead with Shane Clanton moving into second from ninth place starting spot. Clanton was like a lightning bolt as he powered off the fourth turn, and nearly took the from Lanigan

Lanigan wasn’t about to be denied and he continued to set the pace and pulled away from Clanton as Clanton had his hands full with Eckert and Frank, who was fighting back, but his tires appeared to be going away as he started dropping back.

Lanigan continued to set a torrid pace with Clanton and Eckert still vying for second and now Steve Francis was also jockeying for the second spot making that a three-car tussle for second place.

As the race continued a pair of cautions would fly for Gregg Satterlee who lost a left rear tire not once but twice, once on lap 20 and again on lap 34. The final six laps didn’t do anything for Clanton and Francis as Lanigan was not about to be denied his second win of the season. Clanton, Francis, Eckert and Josh Richards completed the top five.

Heat wins went to Richards, Lanigan, Mike Knight and Eckert. The twin 12-lap B-mains went to Clinto Smith and Satterlee.

The Four Cylinders hit the track at the end of the night with the race beginning with a smash as Shawn Hadden got into and then up on the front stretch wall, with Ben Smith and Aaron Luzier also making contact. Following the clean-up Hadden was out of action while the others continued.

On the restart Jon Lee took the lead with Doug Surra in second and Ray Hickok Jr. third. Lee lost the lead on lap five to Michael Lucas and he held down the top spot until lap nine, when Surra took control of the race. Surra looked like a sure winner until Adam Pletcher came from 21st to challenge for the lead. On the final turn of the final lap, Pletcher crowded Surra into the embankment in turn three, causing Surra to blow a tire and fall off the pace. At the end the top five were: Pletcher, Hickok, Lucas, Surra and Donny Lechak. There were no heat races.

BEAR TRACKS: 57 teams filled the pits including 34 World of Outlaw Late Models and 23 Four Cylinders…Track owner Tim Bainey Sr. celebrated his anniversary with his wife Moe by presenting her with a new Late Model that was numbered 34 (the number of years they were married) and it said, “Happy Anniversary Moe!”…The race saw drivers from nine states, including West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, Kentucky, Delaware, Georgia and North Carolina plus Perth, West Australia…Lanigan and his crew also received six pound hamburger from Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub…Josh Richards of Shinnston, WV set the fast time for the night of 16.242…the next event on the CPS Schedule is the two day Go Kart Nationals on Aug. 14 and 15. Check the website at www.thebigtrack.com for complete details.

Bridesmaid No More: Lanigan Opens Ohio-Pennsylvania Speedweek With Victory At Central PA Speedway
Posted Wednesday, Jul 28, 2010

Clearfield, PA — By Kevin Kovac, WoO LMS P.R. Director

Don’t call Darrell Lanigan the ‘Bluegrass Bridesmaid’ any longer.

Snapping his unprecedented streak of four consecutive runner-up finishes on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Lanigan kicked off the national tour’s Ohio-Pennsylvania Speedweek on Tuesday night with a victory in the ‘Fear The Bear 40’ at Central PA Speedway.

Lanigan, 40, of Union, Ky., advanced from the third starting spot to take the lead from Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., on lap six and never looked back. Racing in front of a standing-room-only crowd that turned out for the first-ever WoO LMS event at Tim Bainey Sr.’s four-tenths-mile oval, the 2008 tour champion survived four caution flags and an early threat from Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., to register his long-awaited second series win of 2010.

Clanton settled for second place in his RSD Enterprises Rocket car, a distant 2.308 seconds behind Lanigan’s GottaRace.com Rocket at the finish. Fifth-starter Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., was several car lengths farther back in third at the checkered flag in his Valvoline Rocket, Rick Eckert of York, Pa., placed fourth after running as high as second in his Team Zero by Bloomquist mount and defending WoO LMS champion and current points leader Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., completed the top five with a steady-but-quiet run in his Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket.

“It feels great to get that second-place jinx off us,” said Lanigan, who finished second in all four A-Mains contested during the recent ‘Wild West Tour.’ “Our car’s been good, but we just needed a little luck. Maybe things changed a little bit for the better tonight.”

Lanigan earned $8,600 for his 14th career WoO LMS victory and first since March 19 at Ocala (Fla.) Speedway. He scored nine runner-up finishes between his two wins this season, including six in the 10 races prior to Tuesday’s stop at Central PA.

Lanigan’s post-race prizes also included one of the track’s trademark three-foot-tall wooden ‘Big Bear’ carvings and a fresh six-pound cheeseburger from Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub, the local restaurant that has earned national attention for its menu featuring out-sized burgers.

Now a winner of two A-Mains in each WoO LMS campaign since 2004, Lanigan felt very comfortable circling Central PA Speedway for the first time in his career.

“This track kind of fit our program pretty good – big track with sweeping, wide corners,” Lanigan said of Central PA, which operated with a paved surface for 20 years until being covered by dirt prior to the 2006 season. “The setup we’ve been running lately works good on a place like this. I could just run through the middle without a problem.”

Lanigan was only briefly challenged by Clanton, who needed just six laps to hustle from the ninth starting spot to second. He vaulted from fifth to second in a single lap following a lap-six restart and nearly ran into the rear bumper of Lanigan’s car when he charged hard off the outside of turn four on lap 13, but that was as close as he got to the lead.

Clanton, 34, lost second to Eckert on a lap-15 restart. He regained the position on lap 21 and stayed there to the finish, but he couldn’t summon the speed to compete with Lanigan.

“He went a little harder on right-rear tire than I did,” Clanton said of Lanigan. “I knew where we were starting we had to go at the beginning. I thought I could get (past Lanigan) and then just ride, but I didn’t – and then at the end I just had to ride behind him.”

Lanigan’s victory moved him within 36 points of Richards in the WoO LMS points standings after 29 of a scheduled 47 events. Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., was left 26 points behind Richards in second after settling for a ninth-place finish.

Rookie Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., finished sixth, slipping forward from the 11th starting spot. Frank faded to a seventh-place finish after starting on the pole and leading laps 1-5, while his cousin, Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs, also of Bear Lake, Pa., was eighth to earn the $500 ‘Bonus Bucks’ cash for being the highest-finishing driver who has never won a WoO LMS A-Main and wasn’t among the top 12 in the points standings. McCreadie moved up just one spot to finish ninth and 17th-starter Clint Smith of Senoia, Ga., rounded out the top 10.

There were no serious incidents during the race. Cautions were caused by Todd Snook of Mifflin, Pa., who slid off the track on lap six; D.J. Myers of Greencastle, Pa., who stopped in turn two on lap 15; and Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, Pa., who lost a wheel on laps 20 and 34.

Richards was quickest in Ohlins Shocks Time Trials, earning his series-leading fourth fast-time honor of 2010 with a lap of 16.242 seconds.

Heat winners were Richards, Lanigan, Mike Knight of Ripley, N.Y., and Eckert, and the B-Mains were captured by Clint Smith and Satterlee.

The WoO LMS Ohio-Pennsylvania Speedweek continues on Wednesday night (July 28) at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio. After an off-day on Thursday, the swing visits Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park on Fri., July 30; Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio, on Sat., July 31; and Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., on Sun., Aug. 1.

Denny”s Beer Barrel Pub to Jumpstart the Outlaw Invasion + Pocono/Weis Market Ticket Give A Ways

24 hours until the Outlaws storm into Central Pa Speedway and the event is growing bigger and better.   There will be an appearance from some of the biggest names in dirt racing at Denny”s Beer Barrel and Pub in Clearfield Tuesday morning from 11-1p.m.  Make sure to stop by and see some of the teams, drivers, and cars on display.  “We plan on having two or three of the Outlaw drivers and teams with there cars at Denny’s, says Dan Bainey.  They will be signing some autographs, taking pictures and of coarse eating some of Denny’s Pub’s world famous burgers.  Denny Liegey the pub owner is also preparing one of there legendary 50lb. Belly Bruiser burgers for display at the Speedway before the Outlaw event.”

Central Pa Speedway will also be giving away 20 tickets throughout the Tuesday night event for the Camping World Truck Series race and the ARCA Series race at Pocono this Saturday July 31st.  “I got a call from the Pocono Raceway’s PR guy, Kyle.  He was telling me about a promotion he wanted to try involving some ticket give-a-ways and that he has been to the Big Bear and loved everything about it.  Kyle talked to the folks at Weis Markets (the sponsor of Saturday’s events) they told Kyle they have heard great things about CPS and to move forward with the promotion.  I’m pleasantly surprised by the recognition CPS has gotten over the past few season from other speedways like Pocono and Charlotte.  Its great to be able to give free passes out to our fans especially when money is so tight for families.”

So grab lunch at Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub with the Outlaws on Tuesday from 11a.m.-1p.m.  Then stop at Weis Markets for your snacks and make sure to fill up the gas tank at Snappy’s and bring your receipt to the track for a chance to win 1 of 10 $25 Snappy’s gift cards…

THE WORLD OF OUTLAWS ARE COMING
- TUESDAY JULY 27TH -

The WORLD OF OUTLAWS Kickoff Speedweek at Central Pa Speedway

Tuesday July 27th the World of Outlaw Late Models will make their first ever trip to Tim Bainey’s Central Pa Speedplant.  The $8000 to win $600 to start 40 lap Main event jump starts the Pa/Oh Speedweek for the W.O.O Late Models.  Tickets for the event are only $26 for general admission.  A portion of each ticket sold will be donated to the One Less Tear Cancer Foundation.

My dad (Tim Bainey) said that he wanted a ticket price that people in the area can come and see a World of Outlaw race in person, said Director of Operations Dan Bainey.  He told me that he didn’t care if he made money on this race, it was more important to fill the stands and let people come see the Greatest Late Model Show on Dirt, so that’s what we did.  We even raised the FREE admission from 5 and under to now 10 and under to help race fans afford a night of family entertainment.  This night is going to be HUGE for all of us at Central Pa Speedway.  To be able to have the “NASCAR” of Dirt at the speedway and kickoff there Speedweek means a lot to us and says a lot about Central Pa Speedway and the fans we have supporting us.

Also added to the night will be the FWD 4 Cylinders.  The 4 cylinders will run a Feature event paying $400 to win and $40 to take the green.  If there is an abundance of cars, the field will be split into 2 features both with the same payout.

Gate times TBA Racing @7p.m.

Tickets will be sold at the gates.

*Due to the expected large crowd, lawn chairs will NOT be permitted in the Grandstands.*

Note from Tim Bainey and Family:

"We want to thank all the fans, teams, and track workers for one of the greatest events ever at CPS. We know there were a lot of options for everyone with many other tracks running Friday and Saturday Night.

We appreciate the attendance of all the GREAT fans, the participation by all the teams who chose CPS, and the hard work of our staff... from the track surface to the fireworks show - we couldn't have asked for anything better!

We want to say THANKS - its great to see just how far things have come in such a short time - and its only going to get better. One of my favorite bands of all time ACDC said - 'Its a Long way to the top - if you wanna Rock n Roll... and this weekend - we were truly ROCKIN!"

BLAIR’S PRELUDE TO THE YANKEE DOODLE WIN DRAWS BOOS

BLAIR A YANKEE DOODLE DANDY AT CENTRAL PA SPEEDWAY

For immediate release July 3, 2010

CLEARFIELD, PA - After receiving “Bronx Cheers” Friday night in victory lane for what he said was a mistake, that didn’t keep Robbie Blair from Hydetown from returning to victory lane for the fourth straight time this season at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway.

Blair bested a field of 27 All-Star Late Models to take the $7,000 top prize in the 35th Running of the historic Yankee Doodle 50.

“This is the best the race track has ever been since I’ve been coming here,” he told on-track announcer Tim Winters in victory lane. “You could run anywhere on it, top, middle bottom, through the middle it didn’t matter. It was smooth, this is s heck of a race track when you can run all over it like that.”
Blair said he made some changes from the night before but not many, he said he was on a little harder tire than most people were and he believes that benefited him towards the end of the race.

Winters asked Blair if he’d be at the World of Outlaws Show on July 27th.

“If they make the track like it was tonight, they did a heck of a job on this track, they got rid of the water hole in turn two,” he said. “Everyone did a great job that worked on this track. Yeah, I’ll probably be here (for the Outlaws.)”

Mike Knight and Rickey Elliott drew the front row for the race, which saw Knight take the lead after a side-by-side battle with Elliott at the start. Once Knight had the lead he was setting a torrid pace, having lapped up to and including 11th place before the first caution flew on the 38th lap, a caution that involved Knight.

Blair had the lead after finding the fastest line on lap 38 before the caution, which involved Knight, after he tangled with a lapped car.

While Knight led earlier, second place was a heated battle, with Elliott holding the position and Blair wanting it. It wasn’t until the field was in lapped traffic on lap 17 that Blair was able to get the position from Elliott, but then Elliott’s tires appeared to go away and he began fading as the end grew near.

A pair of ones, the H1 of Jared Miley and the 1M of Jeremy Miller were also in the top five the entire 50-lap distance, as they also began to work the lapped traffic and got around Elliott on laps 47 and 49 respectively.

The last caution was on the 46th lap, when the green came back out it was all Blair who had clear sailing for his fourth consecutive win at the speedway this season, making him the only Late Model winner this season.

Miley was second with Miller, Elliott and Dave Hess Jr. completing the top five. Heat wins went to Blair, Boom Briggs, Elliott and Miley. Knight set the fastest time of 16.424 seconds.

Eric Baun led the Street Stock feature for the first nine laps before Allen Dillenger took the lead and eventual win, making him the only driver to win in the Street Stock division at CPS this season. Randy Wyant, Baun, Denny Crawford and Rusty Martz completed the top five. Heat wins went to Dillenger, Jamie Barber and Wyant.

BLAIR’S PRELUDE TO THE YANKEE DOODLE WIN DRAWS BOOS

For immediate release July 2, 2010

CLEARFIELD, PA - One of the fan favorites at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway wasn’t a favorite at the end of the Let Freedom Ring 25, Prelude to the Yankee Doodle, on Friday night, as the fans threw lots of “Bronx Cheers” at Robbie Blair when he exited the car.

Mike Knight led the opening lap of the 25-lapper after a side-by-side first lap with Jared Miley who took the lead on lap two.

Miley looked like a sure winner as he held off first Knight then Matt Lux for 18 laps before Blair took second from Lux on lap 19. Blair was trying to get past Miley, but he had to catch him first.

Thanks to some late race cautions, Blair was able to restart right behind Miley on lap 20 then again on lap 22 following another yellow flag.

Blair then went into the first turn on the lap 22 restart and there was contact between him and Miley which sent Miley nearly clear off the track in the first and second turns. Miley recovered, but wasn’t near the front anymore as Blair went on to grab the $3,000 victory over D.J. Myers.

“I guess I kind of screwed up there on the last lap, I got up the track a little bit,” Blair said. “I don’t care you can boo, you can yell, whatever you want I screwed up. I admit it though. The biggest problem is these tires they have stuck out here, you can’t get in there straight anymore, you have to bend it, and when I bend it there the back of the car came up there, and there’s nothing else I can really say about. I’ve gotta apologize to those guys.”

When on-track announcer Tim Winters told the fans to give Blair a hand for admitting his error, the reaction was mixed, as there were some cheers and some more boos.

The top five were Blair, Myers, Lux, Tim Fedder and Boom Briggs. The heats were won by Knight, Myers, Miley and Lux.

Steve Buckwalter of Royersford made the long tow to Central PA Speedway a memorable one with a victory on Friday night.

Trevor Kobylarz made his first lap at the track a memorable one as he connected with the first turn bank and flipped off the track.

He fixed the car to return to heat and feature action and he led the opening four laps of the main event before PJ Gargiulo took the lead and for the next three laps before Buckwalter made his way into the lead from his 13th place starting spot.

Once he got the lead the race was for second and it was between Drew Heistand and Ryan Smith.

When Mike Frisco waved the checkered flags it was Buckwalter winning over Smith, Heistand, Heydenreich and Brett Arndt.

Central PA Speedway Ready for

The Biggest 2-Day Weekend in its HISTORY!!!

By Terry Whetstone

CLEARFIELD – Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway will be back in action this weekend for the running of the 35th annual Yankee Doodle 50.

It’s a race that’s seen its share of excitement and thrills over the years. The list of winners reads like a who’s who in auto racing, and it has become one of the premier racing events in the country. It’s a race that anyone in late model racing, at one time or another, has tried to win, but only a few handfuls have.

Over the years the race has seen its share of nasty crashes, exciting finishes and even rainouts and postponements.

The race was postponed one year due to fog, it was continued on July 25 of that year.

In 1982 the finish was so close, it took 24-hours to determine a winner.

It turned out to be Bob Wearing Sr who won over Lynn Geisler.

The likes of Glenn Gault and Clate Husted have won the race more than once. Between the two they share 15 wins in the race, while Tom Merryman and Bob Sibila each have two wins. Single time wins were shared by some of the best in late model racing.

NASCAR drivers such as Jimmy Spencer and Kenny Schrader to name a couple, have often tried their hand at winning the event, only to come up short at the end.

Spencer’s dad, Ed has won the race once, in 1977 while NASCAR Nationwide driver Benny Gordon won the 2002 edition of the race.

Late drivers Dave Srock and Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey also have victories in the race.
Only Gault and Husted have ever won the race back-to-back, and Gault has done that three different times.

“This was the original two day show on the schedule, says Dan Bainey, Director of Operations. “We talked with the All Stars about making this event bigger and better; their suggestion was to make the event a two-day special. We want to continue building the Yankee Doodle into one of the Nations top events and after talking with our guys, I do think Friday and Saturday is the way to go.”

Bainey said he’d like the Yankee Doodle 50 to be a $20,000 or $30,000 to win race and he can really see that happening in the near future.

This year’s action gets under way on Friday night with the “Let Freedom Ring 25” for the All-Star Late Models. The race pays $3,000 to the winner.

Plus, for the first time ever under the direction of Tim Bainey, the ARDC Midgets will be in action. These miniature sprint cars will be going without wings, something that is popular with the division on the west coast.

Following the Friday night action fans can hang around to hear the One Less Tear Band perform on the hillside.

Saturday there will be a complete new program for the 35th Running of the Yankee Doodle 50 for the All-Star Late Models.

The 50-lap contest will be turned loose by honor starter Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-5 of Howard.

There will be time trials both nights, along with heats, consolation races and features for the super late models. Saturday the 50 lap main event will pay $7,000 to win and $400 to start.

Also on the card Saturday is round three of the Street Stock Shoot-out. This race pays $1,000 to win and $100 to start.

Following the racing action Eye Candy Fireworks will present a fireworks program to delight all in attendance.

The two-day event carries a total pure of over $60,000.

Friday the pit gates open at 2:30 p.m. with the general admission gates opening at 4 p.m. and the first green flag waving at 6:30 p.m. Friday’s admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children and $30 for the pits.

Saturday the pit gates open at 2 p.m. with the general admission gates opening at 3:30 p.m. and racing getting underway at 6 p.m.
Generals admission is $25 for adults, $10 for children and $30 for the pits, or fans may purchase a two day pass. General admission is $35, children are $15 and the pits are $45.

Note From Dan Bainey:

On behalf of my father Tim and brother Randy, I would like to personally thank Gary and the entire crew at Lernerville Speedway for this past weekend.  They gave us "back stage passes" for the Firecracker 100 and it was a great time.  Lernerville put on a professional show and was very welcoming to my family.  We will definitely be in attendance for next season Firecracker weekend.

CPS Dixon Contracting and Supply Night Wrapup

CLEARFIELD, PA – Mike Pegher, Jr. of Wexford made his first trip to Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway a winning one, as he picked up the win Sunday night in the Fastrak Late Models in the Father’s Day extravaganza sponsored by Dixon’s Contracting of West Decatur.

Robbie Blair of Hydetown topped the Super Late Models and Allen Dillenger of Hermitage copped the Street Stock Showdown, round two.

Jason DuPont outran Chris Clark to start the Super Late Model feature, and shot into a sizable lead that was abruptly erased when a caution flew on lap 22.

The restart allowed second place Robbie Blair to restart behind Dupont with Jared Miley third and Billy Dickson fourth. As the green waved, Blair dove under Dupont and took the lead, allowing Miley to attack Dupont.

On lap 27 Miley took second and began to close on Blair but the race ended just three laps later, with Blair in victory lane. Miley, Dupont, Boom Briggs and Tim Smith completed the top five. Heat wins went to Blair and Briggs.

Bud Watson and Robbie Blair, pulling double duties, left the Fastrak Late Models to the green with Blair taking the lead. He was fast out of the gate with Watson second and seventh place starter Mike Pegher Jr. headed to the front.

On the seventh lap a caution waved, tightening the field, with Pegher still second. On the restart Pegher found the right groove and went from third to the lead. Once he was out front, he never looked back, taking his first career win at The Big Track.

Blair held on for second with John Holtgraver, Watson and Gary Knollinger Jr. completing the top five. Heat wins went to Pegher, Blair and Bryan Force.

In Street Stock action the feature was once again the Allen Dillenger show, as he took the lead from Randy Wyant on lap two and was never challenged again. The racing was great, from second back, with Bill Henney of Huntingdon winning that battle. The top five were: Dillenger, Hennery, Tim Krape, Wyant and Joe Kott. Heat wins went to Kot, Dillenger and Krape.

BEAR TRACKS: 67 teams filled the pits, including 15 Super Late Models, 21 Fastrak Late Models and 31 Street Stocks…Fuzzy Fields was part of an opening lap crash in a Street Stock heat that sent him careening into the infield and into a push vehicle. No one was injured….The next CPS show is scheduled for July 2 and 3 as the All-Star Late Models return to be a part of the legendary Yankee Doodle 50. Details on the two-day extravaganza are at www.thebigtrack.com.

The previously announced two-day, one event format has been replaced with the two-day, two separate shows format.

Friday, July 2, 2010 will be the date for the 'Let Freedom Ring 25' and will pay $3,000 to the winner.  Along with the All Stars, the Wingless ARDC Midgets will on hand running a 20 lap main event.

ARDC booking agent Lou Zrinski added, “We really enjoyed the racing at Central Pa Speedway a few years ago and have been trying to get back there.  The opportunity came up to be a part of the Yankee Doodle weekend and our drivers really want to be there.”

“We're excited to be able to do this for the fans and the drivers,” Central PA Speedway's Dan Bainey exclaimed.  “We want the Yankee Doodle to become a marquee event; I think this is a step in that direction."

The $3,000 to-win 'Let Freedom Ring 25' will be a full ASLMS show and a 25-lap A-Main event.  Then adding the wingless sprints, it should be a lot of fun to watch and a great night of racing.”

To make room for the added 'Let Freedom Ring 25', the 50-lap 'Yankee Doodle 50' on Saturday, July 3, 2010 will now be a $7,000 to win event with no changes to the rest of the total purse.  The 'Yankee Doodle 50' will also

“The Bainey's and myself wanted to give the fans more racing and give the drivers two full purses to race for” All Star Late Model Series Director Jason Shank stated, 'This is a testament to the Bainey's and Central PA Speedway on how dedicated they are to providing fans and drivers the best possible atmosphere at their facility.  With the great surface that track workers provided us during the 'Grizzly', the new and improved July weekend should be one heck of a treat for the fans.'

“I really have to thank our sponsors for this race, says Dan Bainey.  The folks at Dixon’s Contracting & Supply are very excited for the Fathers Day event.  They’re bringing a lot of their employees and families to celebrate the day at Central Pa Speedway.  And I can’t say enough about the entire Delgrosso family.  They truly are a group of great people and promote family interaction at Delgrosso’s Park and in their day to day lives.  This is our way together to honor the Fathers.”

BLAIR TAKES GRIZZLY 50 AT CPS

For immediate release May 30, 2010

By Terry Whetstone

CLEARFIELD, PA - Robbie Blair of Hydetown, the defending All-Star Late Model Point Champion showed exactly why he was the point champ last year as he pulled into Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway winners circle Sunday night.

Allen (Jim Dandy) Dillenger of Hermitage won the opening round of the Street Stock Shoot out while Reed Salony of Seven Springs won the first ever visit by the Central PA Legends Series.

Robbie Blair drew the sixth starting spot during the re-draw as Gregg Satterlee and Keith Barbara drew the front row for the start of the Grizzly 50. It was Satterlee who took the lead at the start after the field exited turn four under green three wide going into the first turn.

John Britsky was the in second and Barbara in third with Boom Briggs fourth and Matt Lux rounding out the top five.

The battle was intense at the front of the field, with Blair trying to work the traffic to get to the front when a caution flew on lap nine for a spinning John Gavrin.

When racing resumed a lap later, the red came out for a hard crash on the backstretch. Lux got into the outside wall while running seventh. The impact shot his #21 across the backstretch as Darren Peters was exiting the second turn. Lux car crossed in front of Peters who had no where to go. Peters slammed into drivers side of Lux as the Peters 1P ended up on its roof.

Fire and ambulance personnel rushed to the scene and assisted both men from their heavily damaged cars. They were sore but suffered no serious injuries.

When the race resumed Blair had worked his way up to fifth as Satterlee continued to set the pace but on lap 11 Briggs took the lead from Satterlee off the fourth turn with Blair moving into second and pressuring Briggs for the lead. Finally on lap 13 Blair was able to use the outside of the surface and take took the lead from Briggs.

The top three, Blair, Briggs and Satterlee held their own little battle at the front while working through lapped traffic.
Another pair of cautions on laps 26 and 27 slowed the field with Blair still in command with Briggs and Satterlee still trying to catch Blair, but they had to wage their own battle as well, as Blair began to pull away.

On final caution on lap 47 regrouped the field and gave Briggs and Satterlee one more shot at Blair, but Blair wasn’t about to be denied his first ever win at The Big Bear.

Briggs was second with Satterlee third, Jared Miley was fourth and Jared Hawkins fifth.

Blair said in victory lane that he’d always wanted to be able to hoist a fifty pound carved bear over his head for winning at Central PA, and he was able to do that.

“I’ve wanted one of these for a few years now,” Blair said. “Now I’ve got one.”
He old on track announcer Tim Winters he could run three different lines in the feature.

“But man, I’m tired now,” He said.

The first round of the Street Stock Shoot-out started out like last years did, with Allen Dillinger in victory lane.

Dillinger drew the eighth starting spot after qualifying but it was Jim Boyer and Rusty Martz who led the 24-car field to the green, but it was fourth place starter Jackson Humanic who took the lead off the fourth turn to lead the opening lap. Humanic had to contend with Dillinger by the lap three then one lap later, Dillinger was in the lead and just flying. He left all the racing for second place and back, with the best battle for third with Jason John, Martz and Gary Little swapping paint much of the race and when Mike Frisco waved the double checkers it was Dillinger taking the win with Humanic, John, Martz and Little completing the top five. Heat race wins went to Dave Ferringer, Martz, Boyer and Bill Henney. Eric Baun and Gary Luzier won the twin B mains.

Baun said he told Blain during the red flag to use the high groove so he could go out there in the feature and he said then he took off.

Friday night the Central PA Legends made their first ever visit to the speedway with Harlon Leppo taking the lead at the start with Lucas Montgomery in second and Reed Saloney third. As the field continued to jockey for position Scott Houdeshell took the lead for a lap before Montgomery took the lead on lap 11.

A crash between Vernon Houseman and Mark Roberts brought out the red on lap 13. The crash sent Roberts to Clearfield Hospital with injuries, however he was treated and released later that night.

On the restart Saloney took the lead and held off Montgomery the rest of the way to take the win. The 17-year-old was followed over the line by Montgomery, Blain Leppo, Greg Burd and Pat McDermott. Montgomery and McDermot won the heats.

BEAR TRACKS: 85 teams filled the pits over the weekend, including 23 All-Star Late Models, 43 Street Stocks and 19 Central PA Legends…Racers came from four states and two countries including: Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Maryland and Canada…Friday night the Battle of the Bear saw Robbie Blair take the win over Boom Briggs. Then a deal was offered by track owner Tim Bainey to have the pair go head-to-head again with the winner receiving $500. They accepted and Briggs won that challenge…Friday night Blair set the fast time of 15.334 seconds which established a new late model track record…The next CPS event will be held on June 20, Fathers day. CPS To Kick off 2010 This Weekend

By Terry Whetstone

MOUNT ZION – The season started with the Polar Bear 100 in January, but not that warmer weather is upon up Central PA Speedway and The Big Bear roars back into action this Saturday night with the first of two big nights of racing action.

The O’Reilly All Star Late Models will be in town for the two-day extravaganza that will feature late model qualifying Saturday and a complete show for the Central PA Legends plus the battle at the big bear.

The First ever “Battle at the Big Bear” king of the hill style racing is going to highlight the night. The Battle will be made of the top 10 finishing Late Models from the Dash for Cash going head to head. Also added to the night for the non-dash cars will be a “Happy Half Hour” Practice session to help fine tune their setups for Sundays Heats and Main Event.

“We really want to make sure we have a full plate of racing Saturday for the teams and the fans,” said Dan Bainey, director of operations. “By adding the Battle and giving the teams an open practice it adds more money to the pot and a whole lot of action for the fans. We are going to try and give the fans an inside view from the pits. We’re going to have an extra announcer in the pit area interviewing drivers and crews about the changing track conditions and how they are affecting the cars. It definitely is outside the normal box of short track racing and from a fan point of view it should be cool.”

Sunday is the big day, final qualifying and the feature race for the late models and a complete show for the street stocks but the street stocks are gearing up for the latest round of the street stock shootout.

“The Shootout is our way of saying thanks to the local fans and teams,” Bainey said. “The teams get to race for some pretty high payouts and it helps them with their sponsors because they can showoff their skills in front of some rather large crowds during our special events. Last years’ Street Stock Shootout paid out over $35,000 throughout the season. It also lets drivers see how they compare to really, the National level of competition in Street Stock racing. The fans absolutely love it for the fact of its intense excitement. Every lap there is good, hard, paint scraping action. Race fans are very supportive of their local drivers. Most of them live within ten miles of a team, so sometimes it’s pretty exciting just to watch the fans jumping up and down.”

This season Central Pa Speedway will continue the same Street Stock Shootout format. Each race pays $1000 to win and $100 to start. The Shootout will run at every main event with the exception of the July 27th World of Outlaw show. New this season the Nationals Event September 5 will be an Invitational for the top 30 in points.

This weekend’s admission is set fairly low, $5 for the first day if you buy the two-day pass.

In only two seasons Central Pa Speedway’s Street Stock Shootout has become the playground for the Best of the Best in Street Stock racing with an average of 78 different cars per season, the shootout is without a doubt a mainstay for years to come here at Central Pa Speedway. Cars come from all over the Northeast Region including NY, NJ, OH, VA, MD and the core from right here in Central Pennsylvania.

Bainey is expecting a great turnout both nights.

Saturday the pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand and hillside gates open at 5 with racing at 6:30 p.m. Admission Saturday is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a pit pass.

Sunday the pit gates open at 3 p.m. the grandstands and hillside open at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 6 p.m.

General admission is $20, children are $10 and the pits are $30.

Two Day Pass- prices are: General Admission $25, children $13 and pit pass $40.

Steel Block Nationals 2010 INFO Released

Central Pa Speedway will continue its Labor Day Tradition once again with the Annual Steel Block Nationals on Sunday September 5th.  This season the Steel Block/ Crate Late Models will wrestle the Big Bear for $4010 to win and $400 to start.  Also on the card will be the Street Stock Shootout Finale and the Fwd 4 cylinders.

A twist to this year’s Shootout Finale is the race will be an invitation only event.  The top 30 in Shootout points will be invited for the race and the teams who have attempted all of the Shootout events will have a guaranteed starting spot.

“We’re really trying to help the teams that support Central Pa Speedway throughout the season, says Dan Bainey.  With the Steel Blocks being able to lock themselves in during the “Friday the 13th” event and the Shootout event being the top 30 in points, I think we’re doing it.  For the Street Stocks it’s a reward for those teams who put on the show every night for our fans.  If they come every race, then I think they deserve a guaranteed starting spot.

This weekend gets bigger and better every year.  More and more families are packing up the kids, coming over early and spending the day at the track.  That’s what racing is all about, at least in my family.”

Koala Bear Nationals $10,000 to Win Karting Event!!!

Track officials announced today one of the biggest and highest paying karting events in the Country.  The 375lb Animal Class will headline the October 9th and 10th, Koala Bear Nationals, gunning for $10,000 to win.  The Koala Bear Nationals will have almost $40,000 up for grabs during the weekend.  Each day will see four separate money races, while the Animals will use both days to tame the “Big Bear”.

“We wanted to amp up the weekend… I think this should do it, said Dan Bainey.  $10,000 to win and over $40,000 payout over two days is pretty big.  Not many places in the country can pull off this type of an event, but talking with anybody who has been to or raced at the Central Pa. Speedway, they all have one thing in common… they love it; they talk about the speeds, the draft and how smooth the wide surface is.  The best part of all is that it doesn’t matter who has the most money in their equipment.  With the draft being so important, you have to drive and you have to know when to make your moves.  The 80’s taught us “it ain’t over till its over” and that’s exactly true when the karts are on the track.  It doesn’t matter if you are 20th with two to go, you really have a shot at winning.  For 10 grand on the line, the last lap is going to be full blown crazy.

The Animals were chosen based on the responses we received from the racers.  As far as the other classes, I have a pretty good idea what we are running, but again I want to put it in the racers hands.  You tell me what you-the racer- want and that’s what we’ll do.  We want to make sure that we give as many teams as possible a chance to race and win some money.”

The GO KART EVENTS NOW have a separate page added to the big track website (SEE LEFT SIDE MENU –GO-KART Page) for rules, entries, and other information (including the Koala Bear Nationals).

Central Pa Speedway Goes Topless!!!

Friday August 13th Event Announced

Hold on to your shirts race fans because the Big Bear is going topless and we’re do it Friday the 13th

For the first time in track history the Late Models will be racing topless.  The August event will once again be a qualifying event for the Steel Block Nationals.  The race will be an open Late Model event with the top two Steel Block Late Models being locked into the Nationals and new this season the 3rd and 4th finishing Steel Blocks will be given the Pole Positions for their heat races during the Nationals Event.  Also at The Big Track the Street Stocks will be in action for Round #4 of the Street Stock Shootout and the Pure Stocks will have their first event at the Speedway under the Tim Bainey ownership. The Pure Stock event will be a 15 lap race paying $400 to win and $40 to take the green.

“Its something different, said Dan Bainey, most fans and teams around here have never been to or competed in a Topless event.  For those who don’t know what the Topless is all about; it means the Late Models will remove their roofs for the night, changing the handling characteristics of the car and it lets the fans see how hard they work to drive these machines around the Big Bear.  I know last season’s event in Charlotte may have left a sour taste in some peoples mouth and I really don’t know how it happened at a facility of that caliber, at the World Finals.  What I do know is that our staff will go above and beyond measures to make sure our surface is ready.  It is going to be a great show with the Late Models, the Shootout and the Pure Stocks.  Lets not forget its Friday the 13th, so anything is possible…”

CPS KICKS OFF 2010 WITH POLAR BEAR 100

CLEARFIELD, PA - With temperatures flirting with a balmy 12 degrees race fans filled the hillside at Central PA Speedway on Saturday for the inaugural running of the Polar Bear 100 Enduro Race.

Aaron Hill of Brookville had his entry in first for the 100 lap contest and that gave him the pole position. He took the lead at the start and never relinquished it, as he weaved his way through stalled cars, skated across an icy track surface and held off the competition for his career first CPS win.

While Hill leading the way the second spot was held by Gary Little initially but he broke a wheel off the car, and ended his day.

This gave second over to Brent Johnson, whole stayed on the lead lap but could not find a way to get up to or past the leader.

The fight for third and fourth was between Tim Gillette and Curtis J. Bish, as they swapped the third spot numerous times throughout he afternoon. As they did that, most eyes were on Denny Weisgarber, who started 17th in the field and was challenging anyone he could catch. Weisgarber was probably the fastest car on the track, but he dropped out after completing only 43 laps.

The finish saw Hill winning by half a lap over Johnson, while Gillette won the fight for third with Bish fourth and Leigh Wheeler in fifth.

cTodd English went off the track in the first turn and in a cloud of snow the car appeared roll over and landed on its wheel. While English was not hurt, he was stuck and could not continue.

The Speedway has an exciting schedule on tap, check out the website at www.thebigtrack.com for complete details.

Below is the finish, with name, hometown and number of laps competed.

GO KART EVENTS Being Planned

PDKS & Koala Bear Nationals

2010 will again see two weekends of Go Kart racing on the Big Bear.  The Pennsylvania Dirt Karting Series (PDKS) will make there annual appearance August 14th-15th.  Then October 9th and 10th will be the Koala Bear Nationals money events.

This season marks the third year for the Go-Karts on the Big Bear.  Director of Operations Dan Bainey added “I said it last year and I will say it again, watching these karts average 80+ mph around the Big Track bumping and drafting is crazy to watch.  I guarantee if stock car fans come watch the Mains, they’ll become Karting fans at the Big Track.  Every lap is exciting, last year my cousin was leading with two laps to go and by the time they came around for one to go he was running around 12th, but by the time the checkered flew he had drafted his way back for a three wide finish at the line. The time and preparation these teams put into there karts is amazing.  Every run in practice they’re trying something different, I guess anything to find that next tenth of a second.”

The PDKS will have a Practice Day Saturday the 14th and the Super Heavy Series will headline the day’s event with there East Meets West Super Showdown that pays $500 to win.  Sunday will be a full day of events for the PDKS and their 20 classes.  Last season’s event drew over 300 entries and with the word spreading about the detail put into track prep we expect even more this season.

Details for the Koala Bear Nationals are not finished at the moment, but are expected to be in place over the next few weeks.  “We have a couple different ideas for the Koala Bear Nationals.  Right now we’re sorting through them, making sure we have the best program together for a great weekend, says track owner Tim Bainey.”

Central Pa Speedway Announces 2010

$10,000 to Win

Yankee Doodle 50

2-Day Show

The 35th annual Yankee Doodle will once again boast a $10,000 to win purse.  This season the All Star Late Models will be at the Big Bear for a two day event held July 2nd and July 3rd.

“This was the original two day show on the Schedule, says Dan Bainey.  We talked with the All Stars about making this event bigger and better, their suggestion was to make the event a two day special.  We want to continue building the Yankee Doodle into one of the Nations top events and after talking with our guys, I do think Friday and Saturday is the way to go.  We’re going to use the Grizzly weekend to help us with key factors for the Yankee Doodle.  Getting a better understanding for the track prep over a two day show is very important, we’re also going to learn things about concessions, ticketing, even the por-a-johns; we want to get everything right for the YD."

"I would like the YD 50 to be a $20K or $30K to win race and can really see that happening.  I’ve talked to some companies and we are trying to put together a package that will make this happen as early as this year.  Without any outside sponsors my father has already added $5000 into the total Yankee Doodle payout.  With the added purse and the Outlaw’s later in the month I’m anxious to see some of the talent that comes for chance at the Big Bear Trophy.

"Both days will see full racing action.  Friday will have two classes running full events along with the Yankee Doodle Qualifying and the first ever “BATTLE AT THE BEAR” Late Model king of the hill style event.  Saturday will be the big one, the 35th running of the Yankee Doodle along with the always exciting Street Stock Shootout.

Last season the Yankee Doodle was definitely race to remember.  A new late model track record was set by Colby Frye with a qualifying time of 15.447 and that set the bar high for the night. The heat races were won by some of the biggest stars in racing-Tim McCreadie, Shane Clanton, Kenny Schrader and Gregg Satterlee.  For the main event, a caution on lap 49 set up a two lap shootout for the finish.  With the field now regrouped it was a dash for the cash with Myers holding off Blair, Satterlee and a fast closing Boom Briggs. Devin Friese rounded out the top five, as Meyers headed to victory lane to pick up the $10,000 top prize.

The Outlaws are Coming!! The Outlaws are Coming!!

No, this is not a county western movie; we’re talkin’ the World of Outlaw Late Models.  On Tuesday, July 27th the Outlaws kick off the PA/OH SPEEDWEEK right here at Central Pa. Speedway.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am for the World of Outlaws to be here, says Dan Bainey.  We’ve tried over the past two years to put something together with the Outlaws and they really wanted to be here, but we just couldn’t get the scheduling down.  This year when they ask if we wanted to be the opening event of Speedweek, there wasn’t much to say other than YES!

It is a Tuesday night show, so that will be different, but come on it’s the World of Outlaws Speedweek.  We want to continue building the Speedway for the fans, drivers and the whole community.  I’d say having the Outlaws and the All Stars on the schedule is definitely moving in the right direction.”

The event will be the World of Outlaw Sanctioning body’s first trip to Big Bear.  Last years event winners include; Josh Richards, Steve Francis, Darrell Lanigan, Scott Bloomquist, Tim Fuller, Rick Eckert, Earl Pearson Jr., Shane Clanton, Chub Frank, Tim McCreadie, Shannon Babb, Jimmy Mars, Jimmy Owens, Chris Madden, Steve Shaver, Jason Feger.

Central Pa Speedway 2010 Hillside Reserved Spots

Once again the Central Pa Speedway Management will be reserving parking spots along the hillside.  Spots will be given on a first come first serve basis, with the exception of last season’s spot holders. We will be holding the 2009 reserved spot numbers until the Polar Bear 100 on January 30th.  This way our spot holders have enough time to renew their spots, and then we will be reassigning the numbers.  The cost to reserve a spot will remain the same from last season at $200 for the year.

"Last year we had an extra meet and greet with Ken Schrader and our reserved spot holders, said Dan Bainey.  It was kind of an added bonus for them and we did some early parking for some of the events also.  I’m not sure what we have extra this year until it gets closer to the dates, but I’m sure there will be something.  Right now we’re finishing our 2010 schedule and I am excited about every event we have on it.  It’s turning out to be about 13 days of events.  Hopefully, given the Holidays, we can get papers signed and the full schedule up within the next week or two.  Until then we wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS!”

To reserve your spot email info@thebigtrack.com.  Please have your #1 spot request listed as well as your 2nd and 3rd choices.  We will send a conformation back ensuring you of your spot as well as further details.

Central Pa Speedway Announces 2010 Memorial Day

“Grizzly 50”

2-DAY SHOW

The 2010 Season kicks off Memorial Day weekend with the All Star Late Models and “The Grizzly” May 29 & 30th.  This year the Grizzly will be ran as a two day event.  “I personally am a fan of two day events, says Director of Operations Dan Bainey.  It gives the fans two times the action and at a discounted price.  For the teams, they only have to make the trip once and they get to race for some money both days.  The whole atmosphere at the Big Bear has been great and this year we’re concentrating on giving the fans as much for their money as we possibly can.

The Grizzly launches Saturday night with Late Model qualifying and a Dash for Cash money race.  Also on the bill Saturday will be for the first time ever, a full show for the Central Pa Legend Series and an Autograph session with the All Star Late Models.   The Grizzly weekend continues Sunday with the All Star heats, b-mains and the big show, the Grizzly 50 lap main event.  Returning for its third season the Street Stock Shootout will fire off its first round as well on Sunday.

Track Owner Tim Bainey added, “We wanted to make sure that our local teams who can’t make it Saturday because of points at other tracks can show up Sunday and have a full day of racing to make the Grizzly.  So, it was important to keep the heats and mains on the second day.  Dan is trying to put together something extra other than the racing for an after party like a band or another type of entertainment.  The whole weekend should be a good time and camping is free, so bring a tent and let’s have some fun.

Central Pa Speedway Announces First Event of 2010

We are pleased to announce the first ever “Polar Bear 100” Enduro event.  The race will be held rain, shine or snow on Saturday January 30.

“We took a lot into consideration scheduling a date for the Polar Bear.  It’s the weekend off for the NFL playoffs, so all of our Steeler and Eagle fans won’t have to worry about hurrying home for the game.  Also with Mercer having their Enduro Event at the beginning of the month, this will give there teams enough time to put things back together and make it down for a chance to win at the Big Bear.  I am really excited about the 2010 season we are planning and I can’t wait for the next few weeks to get paperwork signed and officially announce races," was Director of Operations Dan Bainey’s outlook.

Please check the Points, Rules and Payouts section for the Entry form and other information.

2nd Annual Koala Bear National GO-KART EVENT

CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER

From Owner Tim Bainey;

"We really wanted to get this in, but with the weather looking pretty rough this weekend we felt it was in the best interest of everyone planning to attend to cancel before they made the trip.

We had teams coming from all over the East Coast, and we just didn't want to see them spend the money to travel, book hotels, etc - when its going to rain all weekend.

We want to thank everyone for bearing with us through the passing of our mother a few weeks ago. That made it tough on a lot of us.

Unfortunately with it being so late in the season, we are unable to reschedule the event, but we are really looking forward to some big events next year, which will be announced sometime in the near future. "

The Street Stock Shootout finale has two drivers looking for lucky win #3 of the season and the top two in points Rusty Martz and Gary Little are separated by only 5 points.  With the $3009 to win and $300 to start, it should be a great battle throughout the field.

STATLER BECOMES FIRST FEMALE TO EVER WIN AT CPS

CLEARFIELD, PA - Tim Bainey's Central PA Speedway presented a "regular show" Sunday night with a severe storm that spawned a tornado just eight miles away, but the weather at the track was hot and clear. That didn't stop Erin Statler of Carlisle from making history by becoming the first female driver to ever win a race at the Mountain Top oval by taking the PASS 305 sprint main.

Matt Gaston of Punxsutawney won the steel block late model portion of the show while Rusty Martz of Brookville copped the street stock portion and it was Cody Robbins of Bellefonte winning the four cylinder feature event.

The PASS 305 Sprints took to the oval first with Erin Statler and Rodney Peters on the front row with Statler taking the lead and setting sail. As she was leading and leading more each lap, Peter was in second with Joe Zap in third. Statler was setting a torrid pace and was now entering lapped traffic as Mike Wagner II and Roger Irvine were now second and third and fighting each other for second as Statler began to work the lapped traffic with perfection as she went on to take the win and become the only female driver to win at the speeding in its entire 39-year history.

Wagner, Irvina, Joey Hershey and Peters completed the top five. "Cowboy" Jim Kennedy and Tyler Bear won the heat races.

Rodney Phillips and John "Buddy" Brady let the late models to the start with Phillips darting into the lead and building up a sizable one at that. He was followed by Brady for the first lap, before Bob McMillen moved into second on lap two. He was there until lap eight when Chuck Kennedy took second and Tim Smith moved into third.

Smith then pulled along side of Phillips on lap 14 and the duo ran side-by-side for two laps before Smith emerged off the fourth turn as the leader on lap 16.  Phillps began to fall off the pace on lap 17 as Matt Gaston came from 12th to second on the 19th lap. As the race continued Gaston began to close in on the leader and he was on Smith's tailed with just laps to go then on the final lap Gaston went to the outside of Smith in turn two and took the win by only feet over Smith. DuaneBrooks, Kennedy and Phillips completed the top five. Heat wins went to Tim Smith Jr. and Matt Gaston.

Alan Dellinger and Joe Kott brought the street stocks to the green with two-time winner Dellinger taking the lead and Kott sitting second. A rash of cautions on the third lap saw Dellinger pit with mechanical problems, giving the lead to Kott who lost the top spot on lap five to Rusty Martz.

On lap 11 Kott dropped to third as Gary Little took second and set his sights on the leader. The front two pulled award from Kott and ran side-by-side numerous times throughout the event, but Little just could not find that extra spurt of power he needed to get the lead as Martz won his second straight main event. Little was second with Bill Henney, Kott and Bob Connor completing the top five. Heat wins went to Joe Kott, Dom Surra and Bob Connor while Rick Hemphill won the B main.

The four cylinders made their first ever appearance at CPS under the Tim Bainey ownership with AJ Hoffner and Sterling Kepner leading the field to the start but it was fourth place starter Cody Robbins who led the opening lap, with Kepner in second and Hoffner third. As Robbins set the pace, Hoffner decided he wanted to lead, so he moved to the front on lap four for two laps, before Doug Surra took the lead on lap six, by by the seventh laps, Robbins had managed to work back to the lead after falling as far back as fourth. Once out font Robbins had first Jason Joiner in second pressuring him then it was Chris Hickok in the runner up spot. Hickok gave Robbins as much pressure as he could handle but Robbins held on for the win. Hickok was second with Joiner coming from 22nd to third, Lee Lehnerd was fourth and Matt Krape was fifth. Cody Robbins and Chris Hickok won the heats.

BEAR TRAX: 102 cars filled the pits including 20 steel block late models, 20 PASS 305 sprints, 32 street stocks and 30 four cylinders...Both Matt Gaston and Tim Smith Jr. have secured spots in the season ending Steel Block Nationals, paying $4009 to win. “This is the opportunity of a lifetime for our local racers, to get to race door to door with one of racings All Time Greats.  This race is meant as a tune up for the Steel Block Nationals and it gives us an inside look at what running a weekly “type” show would be like,” said Tim Bainey.

Along with the Steel Blocks will be Round #4 of the Street Stock Shootout.  Director of Operations Dan Bainey told us, “We don’t have to tell people how exciting these guys are anymore, if they’ve seen any of the Shootout races, they already know it.  Last race they had three and four wide racing coming to the checkered flag, it was great.  The fans were on their feet, cheering and waving.  That’s what racing is about.”

MYERS A YANKEE DOODLE DANDY AT CENTRAL PA SPEEDWAY

CLEARFIELD, PA - D.J. Myers of Greencastle bested a field of 43 other O'Reilly All-Star Late Model drivers to earn his biggest feature win ever Friday night at Tim Bainey's Central PA Speedway, as he copped the 34th Annual Yankee Doodle 50 presented by Snappy's Convenience Stores.

Rusty Martz of Brookville picked up the street stock portion of the action as the speedway defeated Mother Nature.

Following four qualifying heats and two "B" mains, the 24 cars Yankee Doodle 50 was set with Dan Stone and Robbie Blair being the luck of the draw drivers to pick the front row starting spots.

Blair darted into the lead at the initial waving of Mike Frisco's green flag to start the holiday classic with Stone in second and defending champion Keith Barbara in third. A quick caution on the first lap halted the action. On  the restart it was still Blair in the lead with Stone second and another defending champion, Shane Clanton, now in third. Stone took the lead on lap four, but he was the next caution when he spun the car in turn three. He was done for the night.

Blair was then the recipient of the lead once again and he had Clanton in second with D.J. Myers in third. Colby Frye, Gregg Satterlee and Barbara were jockeying for fourth as the front three waged their own battle.

On the 13th lap Myers moved past Clanton and into second and just six laps later he was looking under Blair on the backstretch, as the field worked into the third turn, Blair went high and Myers was low, and off the fourth turn, it was Myers in the lead. He went the rest of the way out front but Blair kept reeling him in but losing ground.

A caution on lap 49 set up a two lap shoot out for the finish with the field now regrouped it was a dash for the cash with Myers holding off Blair, Satterlee and a fast closing Boom Briggs. Devin Friese rounded out the top five, as Meyers headed to victory lane to pick up the $10,000 top prize.

Tim McCreadie, Shane Clanton, Kenny Schrader and Gregg Satterlee won the heats while Matt Gaston and Mike Blose split the twin 12 lap "B" Mains. Colby Frye set the fastest time at 15.447 seconds, setting a new late model track record.

The street stocks were every bit as exciting as Rusty Martz beat Jamie Barber off the front row. Martz continued to lead the race for the first nine laps before Allen "Jim Dandy Jr." Dillenger took the lead entering the first and second turns, but exiting turn four, Dillenger made an abrupt left and pitted for the night, giving the lead back to Martz.

As Martz set the pace, second was not decided until the finish. Gary Little, Barber, Dominic Surra, Tim Krape and Craig Bainey jockeyed for position. On lap 15, exiting the fourth turn, Little made his move and took the lead from Martz but Martz wasn't about to give up without a fight, as the top three were Little, Martz and Surra, Krape was in third, but he got a flat and tried to ride it out, but on lap 19 the tire exploded, sending debris as far into the air that it landed in the grandstands. No one was injured.

As the second two-lap shoot out of the night was getting the green, Little was still in command, but Martz went to the outside of Little and Surra went to the inside as they exited the fourth turn for the final time, Martz surged out front by just a few inches and took the win over Little. Surra held on to third, Bainey was fourth and Barber came home fifth.

Dan Smeal, Allen Dillenger, Craig Bainey and Dominic Surra copped heat wins while Bob Connor and Ben Asel won the "B" Mains.

The 34th Annual YANKEE DOODLE 50

with the O'Reilly AllStar Late Model Series

Bear Lake, PA’s Boom Briggs will lead the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series contingent into July as the tour will make their second and final stop of 2009 to ‘The Big Track’, Tim Bainey’s Central Pennsylvania Speedway for the $10,000 to-win ‘Yankee Doodle 50’ on Friday, July 3.

“We’re expecting quite a turnout this year for the Yankee Doodle.  Last year there were several cars from out of state who I had personally talked with and they were planning on being there, but when the weather report said rain, rain, rain I guess the six hour haul was risky.  We’ve had some of the top guys in dirt racing at the speedway for this prestigious race before and with $10,000 to win, I’m sure there will be some more to add to that list,” was Director of Operations Dan Bainey’s outlook for the event.

Last years Yankee Doodle saw ASLMS Member Keith Barbara of South Park, PA take home the $7000 payday, holding off charging efforts from World of Outlaws Late Model Series star Chub Frank and Jared Miley, also of South Park, PA and 2009 ‘Grizzly’ winner back in May at CPS.

Drivers expected to be in attendance throughout the weekend include ASLMS regulars such as Rob Blair, Keith Barbara, current 2009 ASLMS point leader Boom Briggs , Rod Conley, Coleby Frye, Dave Hess Jr., Mike Knight, and Jared Miley.  Also anticipated to show for the $10,000 to Win Event include some of the region's finest like Mike Blose, Ron and Dutch Davies, Denton Boyer, Ricky Elliott, Alex Ferree, John Flinner, Gregg Satterlee, Dan Stone, and Benny Gordon to name a few.

Rumors are circulating that outside stars like 2006 Yankee Doodle Winner Shane Clanton, Nascar Star Ken Schrader, 2008 YD 50 Runner-up Chub Frank, 2006 World of Outlaw Champion Tim McCreadie, along with a growing list of other National Stars will make a visit to the Big Bear... one things for sure, it will be a night to remember!

Central PA Speedway’s pit gates will open at 3:00 p.m. for the $10,000 to-win ‘Yankee Doodle 50’ while driver’s meeting will be held at approximately 5:15p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to begin around 6 p.m. and the SpeedWrapz Time Trials at 6:30 p.m.  Racing will follow the SpeedWrapz time trials.

CHAD LAYTON TOPS O'REILLY ALL-STARS, LYNN TAKES PASS SPRINT WIN, AND DELLINGER IS #1 IN THE STREET STOCK SHOWDOWN

For immediate release June 14, 2009

CLEARFIELD, PA - Chad Layton of Harrisburg, PA made the trip to Tim Bainey's Central PA Speedway Sunday night an took home the top prize while Ryan Lynn of Hollisdaysburg copped the National Qualifier for the PASS 305 Sprints. Allen Dillenger of Hermitage won the street Stock Showdown.

The O'Reilly All-Star Sprints took to the speedway first with the luck of the draw fiding Andy McKisson and Chad Layton on the front row. Layton took the lead and set the pace early on with McKisson in second with Greg Hodnett and Mark Smith in third and fourth. The top four were closing on the leader with Hodnett taking over second on the sixth lap and Smith moving into third. The top three remained the same for several laps and sat through a few cautions.

Tim Shaffer came from fifth to third on lap 14 with Layton continuing to lead and Hodnett still in second, but the rest of the field wasn't content and continued to jockey for position as Stevie Smith moved in from his 11th place starting position to help mix the action up, as Smith began to fade and seventh place starter Daryn Pittman began to show his presence.

Another caution on lap 20 regrouped the field with Layton still in command and Hodnett still second and hounding the leaders tail as Shaffer and Stevie Smith were still in third and fourth then on lap 23 Pittman made his presence known as he moved from fifth to third and then to second after Hodnett ran out of fuel, as did Dale Blaney. An unscheduled fuel stop was held with just two laps to go, and set up a two lap shoot out.

It was still all Layton as he went on to get his first career win at Central PA Speedway. Pittman held on to second with Mark Smith coming back to third after falling to fifth, Shaffer was fourth and Fast Freddie Rahmer was fifth from 15th. Preliminary wins went to Brandon Wimmer, Daryn Clayton, Bob Felmlee and Ryan Bunton. The Fast Dahs was won by Greg Hodnett while Stevie Smith won the "B"-Main

The PASS 305 Sprints took to the speedway with Mark Watkins and Ryan Lynn on the front row, with Watkins taking the lead at the start and Jake Waters moving into second with Lynn falling to third. Watkins was still leading with Lynn recovering to take second on lap 4, and the trying to reel in the leader. On lap nine Lynn moved to the outside of Watkins and had enough of an advantage to lead the 10th lap, but Watkins battled back and took the lead going into the first turn, dropping Lynn back to second.

Lynn didn't give up and battled back, pulling along side of Watkins again on lap 14 and leading off the fourth turn on lap 15. Once he was out front, he was pulling away from Watkins, but fourth place starter Cliff Conner was now in second and closing on the leader but Lynn was holding his own, then with one lap left Conner went into the first turn too hard and went over the edge of the surface, recovering but losing second to Watkins as Lynn went on to garner his career first CPS win. Watkins, Conner, Rod Peters and Rodger Irvine completed the top five. Jake Waters and Roger Irvine split the heat wins.

The street stock showdown saw Eric Baun and Alan Dellinger on the front row with Dellinger taking the lead and setting the pace. Baun was in second early on with Gary Little third and Rick Hemphill in fourth.

The race continued with Dellinger still setting the pace and Tim Bish mixing it up with the leaders. At the first scheduled caution on lap 10 to send everyone out of the top 15 off the track the leader was still Dellinger with Bish second, Little third, Hemphill fourth and Tim Krape fifth. The restart saw Dellinger continue to lead, as the fight for second get close, with Bish still second but Little took to spot on lap 14 just as the second scheduled yellow waved to make a 10 car, five lap dash to the checkered flag.

Dellinger continued to lead as Krape now moved past Little on the outside for second on lap 16, but Little battled back and regained second on lap 18 but could not catch Dellinger who went on to get his second straight win. Little was second followed by Krape, Rusty Martz from ninth and Bill Henney from 17th.  Tim Krape, Bob Connor and Alan Dellinger won the heats.

ALL STAR SPRINT CAR EVENT START TIMES AND ADMISSION PRICES ANNOUNCED

CPS announced the Starting Times and Admission prices for the upcoming June 14th ALL STAR Sprint Car, PASS, and Street Stock Showdown Event.

"I'll be right up front with the fans," said Track Owner Tim Bainey Sr. "We had a great turnout for the first event. I told fans that if they packed this place out we'd reward them with the lowest ticket price in the country to see the kind of shows we are putting on this season including this ALL STAR Sprint Car Event and the Upcoming $10,000 to Win Yankee Doodle July 3rd."

"We'd like to be even lower, but we came to an $18 ADMISSION PRICE for this Sprint Car Event. It's $7 less than what it was last year, and we have to thank our Great Track Sponsors for putting us in a position to do this."

"Anyone who was here last year will tell you, these ALL STAR Sprint Cars are one of the best shows you will see anywhere - and I've looked around - THIS IS the best ticket price you will find to see them run with 2 Great Undercard Shows. We're also bringing in the PASS Series along with the NEW Street Stock Showdown, which I think is going to really be a hit with the fans! We set it up so the Top-5 Finishing Cars in the Showdown will make at least $400, which I think those guys will like."

"I want to thank the fans for turning out," he finished up. "I'm really excited about what we have going on, and as long as they continue to show their support for Dirt Track Racing in Central PA - things will only get better!"

MILEY TOPS

ALL-STAR LATE MODEL DEBUT AT CENTRAL PA

For immediate release May 24, 2009

CLEARFIELD, PA - Jared Miley of South Park, PA won the O’Reilly All-Stat Late Model debut event at Central PA Speedway Sunday night to kick off the 2009 season while Alan Dellinger of Hermitage, PA. copped the Street Stock portion.

The late model feature hit the speedway with 24 starters ready to go with Tim Smith Jr. and Dave Hess Jr. on the front row with Smith taking the early lead at the start. Started out with a sizable lead that withered on lap seven after the caution waved.

Smith led for three more laps after the caution, but it was Colby Frye who made the move on the inside of turns three and four on lap ten to take the lead. He set the pace for nine laps before Dan Stone took the lead but he couldn’t hold on either, as Jared Miley made his presence known by taking the lead on lap 24, as he came from the 15th starting spot.

Miley only led one lap before Frye made his way back out front at the half-way point of the event but Stone stayed beside him, as the duo ran door-to-door for the lead for several laps, with Stone officially leading lap 27, but Frye fought back and took the lead on lap 28.

Stone didn’t really go away staying with Frye, but on lap 31 Jeremy Miller made his presence known, as he took the second spot from Stone and he brought Miley along for the ride, as Stone fell to fourth. The front group continued to stay under a blanket with Frye still leading and setting the pace, but then on lap 33 lapped traffic began to play into the mix before a caution waved on lap 44.

Frye was still leading with Miley now second, Miller was third and Mike Knight was in fourth, all the way from 20th starting spot. When the green waved it was still Frye leading with Miley trying for the lead, then with four laps to go, Miley made it work as he took the lead and eventual win over Frye. Knight made it to third with Miller fourth and Gregg Satterlee fifth. Heat wins went to Boom Briggs, Dan Stone, Jeremy Miller and Colby Frye while the twin 12 lap B-mains went to Waylon Wagner and Robby Blair.

In the street stock portion Alan Dellinger made a shambles of the field, as he started on the pole and literally left his competition to follow his tracks. Dellinger lead the 20 test from flag to flag and was only challenged on restarts by Rusty Martz. The best battle was for second between Martz, Eric Baun, Chris Schneider and Gary Little. When Mike Frisco waved the double checkered flags it was all Dellinger over Martz, Baun, Little and Jamie Barber. Heat wins went to Alan Dellinger, Rusty Martz, Jamie Barber and Steve Cook. Bill Henney and Rick Hemphill split the twin B-Mains.

Bear tracks: 86 teams filled the pits, including 46 late models and 40 street stocks…Tim Murphy cleared the first turn embankment and flipped several times. He was not injured…Boom Briggs was the fastest timer with a lap of 16.428 seconds…Coming up on June 14 is the O’Reilly All-Star Sprints along with the 305 Sprints and the street stocks….more information is available at www.thebigtrack.com.

2009 Steel Block Nationals—

In Honor of Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey

Central Pa Speedway will round out the full bodied season with the Steel Block Nationals Labor Day weekend Sunday, September 6th.  Keeping with the trend the payouts will again increase.  This time the Steel Block/Crate Late Models will battle for $4009 to win and $400 just to make the event.  The Street Stocks will run their final race of the Street Stock Shootout with a payout of $3009 to the winner and $300 to start the main event.  The first two Steel Block Nationals have seen average car counts of 60+ in each class.

“This is the Super Bowl of racing for these Street Stock and Steel Block guys.  The level of competition for this event is just amazing, last year I think we had over 10 track champions entered.  There were easily 30 cars in each class that could have walked away Champions.  I’ve already been told by some of the guys that, they can’t wait for this race, they’ve got it marked on their calendars”, said Director of Operations Dan Bainey.

This year’s event is being dedicated to Mr. Shawn “Sheetz” McGarvey.  CPS owner Tim Bainey said, “We really want to do something for Sheetz, he was an amazing guy both on and off the track. He was a really great friend of mine, every time I went to a track and he was racing I would go smoke a cigar with him and talk racin’.  There are a couple of different things we could do, but  I think its fitting to honor him where he thrived, Steel Block Late Model racing.

Tim added- “I always ask Sheetz what he thought would be best for Late Model Racing, he would tell me – ‘Well here’s what’s best for Sheetz, but if you want what’s best for Late Models, then here’s what you should do…’ - and you just had to like that guy”!

Fantasy Dirt Racing

Central Pa Speedway’s All Star Sprint race and the $10,000 Yankee Doodle have been chosen by Fantasy Dirt Racing to be apart of there top 30 Sprint and Late Model races to see this season.

“I was very excited when I received the email saying that Central Pa Speedway had been selected for two of the top races in the country, says Director of Operations Dan Bainey.  It shows the quality of cars we have at the Speedway are some of the best teams in racing.  We try to put together National Level races that our local fans can come enjoy without all of the travel expense.

I have to thank the people at fantasydirtracing.com, I think what they are doing is great for the sport.  Our fans here at the “Big Bear” are just awesome and this is a really cool way for the fans to get more involed in the races.  They get to select drivers for the events and have a chance to win a lot of great prizes including free tickets to some great races”.

Go to www.fantasydirtracing.com to select your drivers and start playing the game.

Central Pa Speedway’s 2009 Street Stock Shootout

Back by popular demand this season is the 2nd Annual Street Stock Shootout.  The four race Shootout will once again pay at least $1000 to win each race and a guaranteed $100 to start, including the Steel Block Nationals weekend when its $3009 to win and $300 to start.  The CPS Shootout Points Champion will take an additional $1000 and the top 20 drivers will also get their cut of the $4000+ Points payout.

“I said last year that, the Street Stocks are the foundation of Dirt Racing and I believe it more now than ever.  We had almost 80 cars race in the Shootout last season and there have been at least ten people tell me they were building Street Stocks just so they can come run at the “Big Bear” this year.  The teams that came last year, were here to race… I mean RACE, door to door, fenders flyin’, nonstop racing.  They put on one heck of a show and I think it’s only going to get better, says Dan Bainey.”

He then added, “We’re gonna try to get the fans a little closer to the action this season, with some driver interviews and other ideas we’re putting together.

The Shootout Champion Dan Smeal was almost unstoppable last season, winning the first 3 Shootout Events.  Fuzzy Fields was the man who stopped the season sweep, by winning the Nationals weekend and taking home the $3008 prize.  Gary Little fell just 18pts shy of being crowned Champion and 3rd place Tim Krape was only 6 behind him.  “These guys are hungry and I’m sure they put in some hours over winter to get that last little bit.”

The Street Stock Shootout events will take place; May 24th, July 3rd, August 9th, and September 6th.

Fans are encouraged to come our with FREE ADMISSION and enjoy the day.

“It will nice to get to hear the engines roar again," said track owner Tim Bainey Sr. "It’s been a long off season and I think everybody’s getting excited for the upcoming events.

"Dan and Kenny put a lot of time in lining up the shows and I’m looking forward to Everyone of them!  We really think the $15 admission is going to be big for all of the fans AND like I said before, I hope we can keep it low all season, it just depends on the turnout for our first event May 24th."

Central Pa Speedway to Offer 20

Reserve Hillside Parking Spots

Management announced today that they will be reserving 20 parking spots on “Big Bear Hill”.  The spots will be on a first come first serve basis and be sold through the website.

These spots are for the hardcore groups of fans and for businesses around the area to entertain workers or clients.

I had a bunch of people stop me last year and tell me they’d pay $100 a night to have their spot reserved.  We figured that we have about 120 parking spots on the hill, so if we reserve 20 - that leaves us with the other 100 still open for race day parking.  I think most fans enjoy lining up at the gate in the morning; they get to hangout with other race fans and talk about their favorite drivers.  Some of them have cookouts and start their beverages a little early, some of the fans even camp the night before.  It’s a pretty good time out there, but I guess if you want to make sure you get “your spot” or you can’t get here until race time, then a reserved spot is the way to go.  For businesses it’s an avenue they can reward customers or even use it as an employee incentive.

The reserved parking spots will cost $200 for the full season pass.  The passes will be good for all 5 full bodied events and all 4 go-karting events.

To reserve your spot email dan@thebigtrack.com.  Please have your #1 spot request listed as well as your 2nd and 3rd choices.  We will send a conformation back ensuring you of your spot as well as further details.

August 9th Event Announced -

Ken Schrader Headlining the Action with the United States Modified / E-Mod Event at Central Pa Speedway

CPS Management announced today that NASCAR Veteran Mr. Ken Schrader will be racing at Central PA Speedway as part of the United States Modified / E-Emod Event Sunday, August 9th

Director of Operations Dan Bainey had this to say; “We looked into several different types of racing for this event and I think we put together a nice quality package.  I really wanted some type of Modifieds at the track this year, and when we were throwing around ideas, Schrader’s name came up.”

“We talked with him and he told us that he had read good things about what we’re doing at the Speedway and that he’d like to race at Central Pa. Speedway if there was an event that fit his schedule. He suggested we look at a USMTS (United States Modified Touring Series)/ E-mod Style Race.  Mr. Schrader informed us that he has a USMTS car and that if we ran them, he’d be sure to make the event at Central PA.”

The event will also include a Street Stock Shootout race.  The PASS 305 Sprint Cars will also do battle for the first time at Central Pa. Speedway, as well as the new addition of Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinders.

“We’re happy to announce the addition of the front wheel drive 4 cylinders.  The program will feature a payout of $400 to win $40 to start.  Also, in spirit of “4” the winners will receive a 4 foot trophy” added GM Kenny McLaughlin.

Central Pa Speedway owner Tim Bainey had this to say, “I want all types of cars to have a chance at winning here at the Big Bear, with these additions, its more classes that get to race.  If I could, I’d have races every night with ten different classes a night, but that’s not possible, yet… To top it off Ken Schrader, one of the best and most dedicated racers you’ll ever find is going to be here.  It’s going to be a great show.”

Find out more about the USMTS/ Emod Cars at www.usmts.com and keep up with everything about Central PA Speedway at www.thebigtrack.com

Date Moved from Saturday to Sunday for the

$7000 to win/ $15 Admission “Grizzly”

The Grizzly will be held Sunday, May 24th

with a rain date of Monday, May 25th.

“We hate to change a date after we have already announced it, but this will be better for our teams and the fans,” said Dan Bainey Director of Operations.

“We had talked with the All Stars before about running on the Sunday, but they were looking at their overall schedule and wanted to get back on the road by Sunday.”

“Once we announced the $15 Admission and committed to putting this big of a show, it put things in a little different perspective and they said if we wanted to move the race to Sunday, to go for it.”

The race will be the originally scheduled $7000 to win All Star Late Models “Grizzly”, with race #1 of the Street Stock Shootout.  Admission for this event will remain at the advertised $15.

Tim Bainey added, “I really wanted Sunday the 24th instead of running on Saturday.  Mainly because we try to stay off of other tracks nights.  I am all about promoting Dirt Racing as a whole and if there are 10 tracks all running against each other, then they’re going to hurt each others fan and car counts.”

“I figure if we can help them by running a different night, then that’s what we’re going to do.  There isn’t much we can do about the Yankee Doodle being on Friday July 3rd, it’s been on July 3rd for a while now and that’s where it has found its home.  We have talked with some other tracks and they have mentioned the possibility of taking the night off and coming to watch the action at CPS, so hopefully this gesture on our part - will allow us to make things work out for everyone.”

Pennsylvania Dirt Karting Series Event at CPS in 09

The Pennsylvania Dirt Karting Series (PDKS) has selected Central Pa Speedway to host a State Race Sunday, August 2nd

“This is a pretty nice accomplishment as well as compliment to CPS,”said Dan Bainey. “We are very happy to be chosen by PDKS to host this event.  We had talked with PDKS last season and they were leery of bringing their karts to the Big Track do to its sheer size.  They also stressed how difficult it would be to get the entire speedway as smooth as they need it to be.  After watching the action from the Koala Bear Nationals, they told us they were flat-out amazed how smooth the surface was and how great the racing was.”

Dan went on to add, “I had the opportunity to drive a kart in one of the races and I’ll tell you it was a blast.  People were bump drafting and using slingshots passes.  These karts average something like 80mph around the Big Track and when you’re sitting an inch off of the ground that’s really, really fast.

The PDKS “State Race” will be an all day event consisting of 18-20 classes of action.  Central Pa Speedway plans on running an unsanctioned event on Saturday, August 1st, the day before the PDKS race. This event was planned to give teams a chance to get some track time, dial the karts in, and at the same time save some money by doing it all in one weekend for the teams who will be traveling from as far as 6 hours away.

The Koala Bear Nationals will also take place this year; a date has yet to be announced.

Record Breaking $10,000 to Win

34th Annual “Yankee Doodle 50”

with the “O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series”

Central Pa Speedway Owner Tim Bainey has announced a Record Breaking $10,000 to Win Yankee Doodle as part of the 2009 Schedule. It was also announced, the highly touted O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series will return to the Big Bear for the 34th running of the Annual Yankee Doodle 50.

The excitement surrounding the famed event has been building, and some of the country’s biggest names in racing are already being mentioned for who may win the 2009 event.

Last years Yankee Doodle saw Keith Barbara take home the $7000 payday, holding off charging efforts from Chubb Frank and Jared Miley.  The Street Stock Shootout will also take to the track for their $1000 to win $100 to start event.

CPS Owner Tim Bainey noted “We haven’t set the admission for the Yankee Doodle yet, but I’m hoping the $15 Admission we’re starting the season with is a BIG HIT with the fans.  I would like to keep it as low as we can for the Yankee Doodle, the fans have said this is what they want – and I’m going to give them a chance to prove it!”

“I’m putting out a challenge to the fans – you get the word out and pack CPS on May 23rd for our $7000 to Win All Star Late Model Show, and I’ll Promise to charge the lowest price you’ll pay anywhere in the country to see a $10,000 to Win Event on July 3rd!”

Keep up with all the latest as we continue to – in the words of Tim Bainey (who made the decision regarding the $15 admission price for the May 23rd Event while attending a Rock Concert by the legendary AC/DC)– Rock the Racing World!

Tim Bainey’s Central Pa Speedway Welcomes Back the ALL STAR SPRINTS Sunday June 14th

Back by popular demand, the All Star Sprints bring there four wide and wild action for there second annual trip to The Big Bear.  All Star Sprint President Guy Webb said, “The sprint car teams can’t wait to get back to Central Pa.  After last years race our guys told me Central Pa Speedway was one of the fastest, smoothest, widest, and most fun places to drive in the country.”

Last years event was action packed.  Time trials saw several of the drivers shatter the old track record and ultimately set a new track record of 13.698.  The sprint cars ran there 4 wide signature pace lap, then again ran three and four wide several times under green flag racing.  Lap 2 saw one of the evenings most intense moments when Jimmy Segar took a wild ride flipping several times out over turn one.  In the end it was Mark Smith winning the inaugural event.  Greg Hodnett held on for second, with Dale Blaney, Randy Hannagan and Stevie Smith rounding out the top five.

Dan Bainey added, “The response from the fans last year was great.  I’ve been asked so many times from people when the sprints are coming back.  Well, now I can tell them June 14th.  The show last year was just crazy.  I remember the first car went out and held if flat the entire lap, I though there was no way he was going to make it through one and two, but I guess I was wrong.”

Be sure to check back Monday for the release of the 2009 Yankee Doodle!!!

“Our team talked all winter about how we could continue to improve our fans opinions of CPS.  The first thing that we discussed was to have quality events at a low admission price.  After talking with our great and very supportive sponsors, in addition to securing a few new ones, making some small internal changes, and booking what will be some of the biggest events in the Northeastern United States, we have put together a stellar schedule of events.”

In fact, admission for the Grizzly will be only $15 for adults.  Track owner Tim Bainey added, “This was my goal as an owner. “To be able to have national level racing that our local drivers could compete - with and do it at prices our community can afford to come watch.”

“I really want to thank Kenny and Danny for getting things together for the upcoming season.  I also want to thank Timmy for dropping everything anytime we need him to add his input or run the website.  This season promises to be one of the most memorable and exciting ever in the history of CPS.”

Guy Webb, president of the O’Reilly All Star Series, stated that, “Central Pa Speedway was one of the first tracks we wanted to put on the schedule. The facility is great, the racing is fantastic, and the fans are just incredible!”

The multi-state tour will feature some of the biggest names in dirt late models going door to door at some of the best Late Model tracks in the country.  The series will include a large point fund for the top 10 drivers and owners, appearance fees for 5 to 10 chosen “All Stars” and a race format that will entertain and excite the fans.

The event will also feature the first race of the highly anticipated 2009 Street Stock Shootout.  Details for this years Shootout will be released in the upcoming weeks.

Winter Recap

With our first season under our belts we will take a brief look back at the highlights of the year.  Before any engines were fired 2008 already had many improvements.  The most notable was the 12 inches of new clay on the track surface.  Central Pa Speedway’s purses were the highest in speedway history, Sprint Cars were added to the schedule, the introduction of the Street Stock Shootout, and the first ever go-kart event the Koala Bear Nationals were also among the changes.

Racing wise the newly constructed UFO Series made their first trip to the Speedway for the Memorial Day “Grizzly”.  48 Late Models and 47 Street Stocks filled the pits for the inaugural event under Tim Bainey’s ownership, that paid out $5100 to win.  Mother nature decided to open up the week leading to the event and made for soft under layers for the racing surface.  The track crew worked with the racers all night in order to have a raceable surface.  Following the event the entire turn one and two section of the track was tore up and new clay was laid to fix the water problem.

Another first for Central Pa Speedway was the first time the O’Reilly All Star Sprint Car Series would race at the facility.  “The Sprint Cars put on an amazing show, from the flat footed qualifying laps, to the 4 wide parade lap, all the way to the last lap of the race.  It was just great.  Many of the fans said this was one of there favorite races all time at the speedway.  I talked to several of the sprinters and they absolutely love the place, they thought the surface was great and very fast.  They said they can’t wait until they can come back”, said Director of Operations Dan Bainey.

It was now time for the highly anticipated annual Yankee Doodle 50 presented by CNB and the Navasky Foundation.  The UFO Late Models would return a second time for this year’s Yankee Doodle.  The 2008 Yankee Doodle had a record winner’s purse of $7000 to win.  Several of the area’s top drivers battled it out with some of the top drivers in the country.  In the end Keith Barbara blasted to the finish beating “Chubzilla” Chub Frank and the H1 of Jared Miley.

By this time of the season the Street Stock Shootout was in high gear.  Dan Smeal seemed to have the track down to a science, winning the first three events.  “I joked with Smeal after the race telling him that he now has the three bears, I guess for the next race we should make him a Goldylocks”, said Dan Bainey.  He went on to add “The Street Stock Shootout had almost 80 cars show up for only four races, I’d have to say it was a success and I’m sure we’ll be running it again in 2009.”  Dan Smeal tried to sweep the season, but came up short as Fuzzy Fields would take the final event paying $3008.  Smeal did however pocket another $1000 for winning the first ever Street Stock Shootout points championship by 18 points over Gary Little.

Mother Nature decided to show her power for the next two scheduled events. The Steel Block Nationals were rescheduled and ran October 4th.  Dan Stone seemed to have the race to himself, but mechanical problems opened the door for fan favorite Shawn “Sheets” McGarvey to take the win and the record payday of $4008.

The final racing of the season was the Koala Bear Nationals.  The two day event featured nine different classes of racing.  General Manager Kenny McLaughlin had this to say “I was excited to have go karts on the big track, and after the first couple of laps with everybody bump-drafting and doing slingshot passes, I knew it was going to be a good show.”

Currently the staff is finalizing detail for the 2009 season.  Be sure to check back Monday morning for the release of the first event.  We would like to thank all of our track sponsors- JJPowell, Snappy’s, Lezzer Lumber, Delgrosso’s, Aarons, and ECMG.  Also, we would like to thank the race sponsors- CNB, The Navasky Foundation, Rex Energy, Mason Law Office, Sutliff Hummer, and John Glenn Sanitation.  Most importantly we would like to thank you the fans for supporting Central Pa Speedway and racing in general.
